The new multistory Union City Amphitheater will incorporate below-grade areas, and due to the close proximity of the adjacent existing residential structures to the new construction, conventional underpinning was required. In addition to the onsite geotechnical engineering services for the underpinning operation, BSG provided vibration monitoring services during the underpinning operation, monitored existing cracks in the foundations being underpinned with crack gauges installed by BSG, and performed pre- and post-conditions surveys of the underpinned buildings. The purpose of pre- and post-surveys are to record the conditions of existing structures, in order to prevent unjust or fraudulent claims against the general contractor, contractor, and the owner.
