BSG provided professional engineering services to the county of Ocean for the replacement of Beach Boulevard Bridge spanning the Forked River in Lacey Township. As with any bridge engineering project, a variety of components exist beyond the scope of simply designing a new bridge – this project is no exception. Ocean County and its residents depend heavily upon their bridges to connect communities separated by its many bodies of water. This dependency made the execution of this project key to maintaining the transportation flow, commerce, and public well being of the surrounding area. In conjunction with the County, BSG carefully developed 1.5 miles of temporary roadway through an adjacent farm tract that allowed the continuation of traffic during construction for the nearly 2,000 surrounding homes and other users of Beach Boulevard Bridge in the Forked River corridor.


The new four-span Beach Boulevard Bridge measures 230-ft in length and 48-ft in width. This replacement included new pipe pile foundations, concrete pier bents, reinforced concrete wing walls, 500-ft of bulkhead, FRP fenders, and AASHTO Type II beams. In addition to preliminary and final design, BSG also provided survey, hydraulic analyses, right-of-way investigations, and NJDEP permitting necessary to support this project. Innovative techniques utilized in this design include integral abutments for a "jointless bridge", and post-tensioned CIP pier bents and deck panels. This project adhered to AASHTO, NJDOT, and Ocean County design standards and guidelines to insure the proper construction and public safety.


BSG received the ACI NJ Concrete Merit Award for Short Span Bridges for this project.
