St. Joseph’s Health System |
Paterson and Wayne, New Jersey
Initiated by a comprehensive Master Plan effort encompassing both campuses, this multi-faceted project will add over 185,000 sf to the facilities over the next several years. The new 174,000 sf Critical Care Building at the Paterson campus is the cornerstone of the new campus plan and includes the expansion of the Emergency Department, two floors of Intensive Care Suites and a new Operating Suite complete with state-of-the-art specialized digital and robotic equipment. Guests will enter the Paterson campus through a new vaulted Lobby entry connecting a new parking garage to the main Hospital. Over 50,000 sf in renovations are included for new out-patient clinics, and a significant amount of the existing facilities are foreseeing renovations and improvements. Due to the significant amount of new construction, the design challenges for the infrastructure were several-fold. To point, to allow for the Lobby addition placement, BSG designed a phased replacement of the Main Street electrical service as well as the HVAC system serving the existing Operating Rooms in order to make way for the new Lobby construction. This has occurred with minimal disruption to hospital operations and patient care. By providing in-depth analyses of the existing physical plant at the formative stages of the design, BSG was able to develop chilled water, fire protection, domestic water system, and essential and normal power system improvements to these existing systems in parallel with the new building infrastructure and within the overall project budget.
