This project involves design of a five-story, 52,500-square-foot addition to the existing school. The existing pile supported, concrete encased steel framed building was built in 1923. The new addition will be constructed in the existing playground and will be connected to the existing building via a five-story connecting corridor. The steel framed structure is to be pile supported due to poor soil conditions and a high base flood elevation. In addition, the building incorporates concentric steel braced frames for the seismic lateral resisting system.
