Summerfield Elementary |
Neptune, New Jersey The replacement of the existing Summerfield Elementary School in Neptune Township, New Jersey is certainly unique among all of the projects completed by the New Jersey Schools Construction Corporation (SCC). This project was the first to be designated and completed utilizing the design-build process. As significantly, the project achieved LEED Silver certification. The school building is approximately 85,000 square feet in area and includes a three-story academic wing, a gymnasium, a media center, and cafeteria, as well as administrative and support areas. BSG served as the engineering consultants for the Bridging Architect/Engineering team, which was led by the SSP Architectural Group. Together, we worked with the SCC to determine project programming and to prepare the project’s performance specifications. The performance specifications provided a framework for the prospective design-build teams to incorporate strategies to meet the LEED certification requirements. The proposed design-build team used these specifications and other information to provide lump sum pricing for this new school. As part of the Bridging Architect/Engineer team, BSG provided assistance to the SCC in preparation of their design-build contracts, the evaluation process of the design-build team proposals, and assessments of compliance with the technical aspects of the proposals. We also provided assistance to the owner in the review of substantiation submissions that are intended to assure compliance with the requirements of the performance specifications. Furthermore, we monitored compliance with the originally submitted LEED checklist and reviewed calculations in support of various engineering related LEED point achievements.
