Neptune, New Jersey
BSG provided the mechanical, electrical and fire protection design services for ap-proximately 140,000 sf of additions and 128,000 sf of alterations to the Neptune High School.
In an effort to provide over 1,300 high school students with the most suitable environment for academic achievement, the Senior High School building was completely reconstructed. The project consisted of a complete renovation to the existing 128,000-square-foot building and incorporated 134,000-square-feet of new construction, all without the acquisition of new land – more than doubling the size of the original structure.
The existing classrooms and cafeterias were renovated and enlarged, with all floors, lighting and ceilings replaced. The project also included a 1,500-seat auditorium, 2-story library, a 3-story math and science wing, a high technology wing that includes a new television studio, 2 computer-aided drafting (CAD) labs, and high tech graphic arts printing, and 8 new classrooms across the center courtyard of the building and auxiliary gymnasiums.
The project design incorporated a variety of different structures and details such as geo-thermal heating and air-conditioning to be environmentally friendly and energy efficient. The first phase of the project included the installation of the geothermal well-field, heat exchangers, pumps, controls, piping and geothermal heat pumps for the new construction. The second phase of the project included the complete renovation of the existing building with the replacement of all original HVAC components with new geothermal heat pumps, tied into the new geothermal water loop system.
