Since the early 1900s, organizations that were merged to form Birdsall Services Group (BSG) have been providing engineering and environmental consulting services to several core and ancillary markets throughout the tri-state area including healthcare, K-12 and higher education, government, developers, theme parks, architects, attorneys, and con-struction managers. Birdsall Engineering (BEI), founded in 1919, offered a broad range of public engineering and consulting services to municipalities, public authorities, counties, and government agencies. Beginning as a municipal engineering firm located in Monmouth County, BEI evolved to meet the demands of its public clientele by offering services including permitting, planning, structural, transportation, and water resources.

In 1996, BEI acquired Lynch, Giuliano & Associates (LGA). LGA provided results oriented consulting engineering and surveying services since 1970 to a wide variety of residential and commercial developers, along with industrial clients. LGA fostered its reputation throughout New Jersey by offering premier land use permitting strategies, along with its marine and waterfront development engineering and submerged utility services.

The next year, BEI purchased Johnson and Associates, a mechanical, electrical, and plumbing firm, which had been in business since 1956. BEI combined Johnson & Associates with John C. Morris Associates, which was acquired in 2001 to form the entity known as Morris, Johnson & Associates (MJA). MJA was a specialized consulting engineer in all aspects of heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), electrical, plumbing, fire protection, information technology, and building automation systems. These engineering services were provided to a wide range of public and private clients including the healthcare, government, developers, K-12, and higher education markets. In 1999, BEI acquired Di Stasio and Van Buren (DVB), a structural design services firm that was originally founded in 1914. DVB provided these structural services to the professional building and development community, in addition to government entities. DVB's portfolio featured unique and complex building projects for a variety of facility types - from healthcare and science/technology to K-12 schools, higher education, municipal, recreational and transportation.

With these four established engineering firms; Birdsall Services Group (BSG) was formed to create one corporation in 2002.

Finally, in 2008, PMK Group (PMK), a recognized leader in the public and private sector providing environmental engineering and consulting services since 1986, was acquired and became BSG's fifth specialty engineering firm. PMK provided environmental engineering and remediation services for landfills and brownfield sites throughout New Jersey in addition to providing geotechnical engineering and waste management services. PMK was also a leader in providing energy and sustainable consulting services, which helped their clients manage rising energy costs while also identifying renewable energy alternatives.

By combining the professional engineering and consulting services offered by the five firms, BSG has become a recognized leader in providing full-service engineering and consulting throughout the tri-state area.
