Di Stasio & Van Buren, Inc. (DVB) provided structural design services for a new 133,000 square foot middle school for the Union City School District. In addition to classroom space, the facility includes a parking garage on the ground floor level, a cafeteria, theatre, library and gymnasium.
The facility consists of steel moment frames with composite concrete slabs on metal deck. The new 4-story building includes a full basement and features a brick veneer facade with masonry CMU backup. A full 100 x 80-foot gymnasium space was also provided, featuring long span-girders for maximum flexibility.
