Greenhouse Gas Evaluation

Ocean County Utilities Authority (OCUA)

Bayville, New Jersey

The Ocean County Utilities Authority (OCUA) operates three wastewater treatment facilities treating 80 million tons of wastewater per day. OCUA retained the services of BSG to create an inventory of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission sources and establish a baseline GHG emission profile for its Central Water Pollution Control Facility (CWPCF) based on emissions from the calendar year 2007, including all sources and operations.

BSG used standard calculation tools developed by the World Resource Institute, The Climate Registry, The California Climate Action Registry, and The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), to calculate greenhouse gas emissions and establish a baseline profile based on the data made available by the OCUA.

CWPCF’s greenhouse gas emissions in the year 2007 included all six major GHGs identified in the Kyoto Protocol, namely Carbon dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4), Nitrous Oxide (N2O), Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), and Perfluorocarbons (PFCs).
