University Hospital required a new suite dedicated exclusively to the cardiac-thoracic intensive care. Four thousand square feet of patient bed space was renovated on Level E in close proximity to the operating suites. We also provided engineering services for the three new cardiac catheterization labs at the University of Medicine & Dentistry's main campus hospital facility.
The cardiac-thoracic intensive care unit provides state-of-the-art heart monitoring at its six new beds. A new HVAC system was designed to support the space, including specific temperature and humidity control. A separately monitored ventilation system was provided for the infectious isolation suite. Because the intensive care areas require a great deal of critical branch emergency power, we collaborated closely with the facilities staff to locate the nearest available source.
With the increased caseload of cardiac catheterization procedures, University Hospital was required to design and construct this suite under an extremely tight schedule. With our assistance, the construction was completed in less than five months with no increases in the construction contract for the mechanical, electrical, fire protection and plumbing systems.
