Liberty State Park Remediation

BSG developed a remedial action work plan for the removal of approximately 23,000 cubic yards of hexavalent chromium impacted soil from the Liberty State Park site. BSG also assisted the NJDEP in the removal and disposal of the impacted soil. BSG services included site management, air monitoring, interaction with stakeholders, and obtaining the required permits.

In conjunction with the remediation, BSG designed the restoration plans for the entire wetland complex (5.5 acres of wetlands and a total of 14.70 acres) within the remediation area. The existing wetland was in a degraded state and dominated by Phragmites. The restoration plans created a new wetland complex which included enlargement and enhancement of the existing pond with new native aquatic plants, creation of both wet and upland meadows, upland areas, a walking trail with benches, and an educational area for students to wade into the pond.

During the construction of the wetland complex, BSG assisted the NJDEP with oversight of the grading and planting operations. The wetlands emergence has been very successful and in accordance with the intent of design.
