Ocean County Police Academy Building

Toms River, NJ

Ocean County Police Academy

BSG was contracted by Ocean County to perform a proactive indoor air quality investigation of the Police Academy Building identified as building 42. The purpose of the investigations was to identify any conditions or contaminants that may potentially lead to poor indoor air quality and/or potential health risk as a result of poor indoor air quality. BSG developed a sampling strategy and performed the sampling for such contaminants as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, temperature, relative humidity, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), total airborne particulates, asbestos, formaldehyde, air and surface sampling for culturable and non-culturable mold, as well as other indicators of IAQ problems. As a result of the proactive investigation, BSG identified damaged friable asbestos-containing plaster, as well as mold growth on several different types of building materials in several different locations. Based upon the condition of the friable asbestos and mold, BSG remediation activities were undertaken.

BSG prepared technical specifications for both asbestos abatement and mold remediation as part of this project, and ensured a contractor was secured that is capable of performing mold remediation services following asbestos abatement.
